Hi, guys! I'm Ashley from Modernette, and I am super happy to be blogging here on The Grits Blog today.
Blogging is no joke, as I'm sure a lot of you know. It's like running your own small business, and there is no way to guarantee that the time you're putting into it will actually end in anything other than creative burnout. Over the last two years that I've been blogging, however, I have discovered five things that you can do every day that will really boost your efficiency and success.
1. Take a moment to respond to those who have endorsed you on social media.
I know that this kind of seems like an obvious one, but making a conscious effort to check in on your social media notifications each day really makes a difference. I don't even mean just checking Twitter notifications - I mean taking a peek at those who have followed you on Facebook and liked your photos on Instagram, too!
2. Clear out your Inbox.
This is one of the things that I struggle the most with. I guarantee that I will read your email the second that I see it pop up in my notifications, but there is a good chance that I won't actually respond to you for two or three days. It is the worst habit ever, guys! Just taking a minute a day to respond to those emails lingering around your Inbox does a lot to make that mountain of responses seem just a little bit smaller.
3. Keep on top of tomorrow's schedule.
One of the last things that I do before turning my computer off at night is checking my calendar for the next day. Mostly I do it to make sure that I haven't forgotten to do anything, but I also like to take a glance just to see what's coming up next. Also, if you use Hoot Suite or an alternate, the night before is a great time to make sure you have all of the next day's auto-tweets set up.
4. Tweet at or comment on at least one blogger's tweet or post.
I try to read at least a few blogs every day, even if my Bloglovin' feed doesn't get looked at until the weekend. And while I may not be the most reliable commenter ever, I at least try to leave one meaningful comment a day on a post that I loved. It's easy to forget to comment sometimes, but making it one of my "to-do" items seems to make the habit stick.
5. Respond to your comments always.
Always, always, always take a minute to respond to those who have taken time to comment on your post. Sometimes it can be daunting when you see an entire page full of comments, but unless you're Young House Love - who get thousands of comments per post - it's totally doable. Add twenty minutes into your blog schedule per day, and put your "thank you" hat on!
Once you have your own daily blogger schedule down, you'll totally get into the swing of things and be able to knock each item above out of the park. You may also add or subtract your own favorite things to do.
